Saugus was one of the four communities (along with nice Valencia, tiny Newhall, and gorgeous Canyon Country) that eventually merged in 1987, to create the brand new city of Santa Clarita. Saugus is effectively named after the town of Saugus, Massachusetts, the original hometown of Mr. Henry Newhall, whose land the town was originally built on.
